Welcome to the website for Pete Robinson, musician and teacher.  Please have a look around and get in touch if you would like any more information

I currently have vacancies!

I usually have a waiting list for new students but due to the current situation, am able to consider taking on some new students.  Please enquire for details.

Covid Information

Due to the ongoing COVID 19 situation, I am currently teaching online using Zoom software.  This is working well.  I have multiple cameras set up so that my students can see both me and my hands on the piano and can also use an ipad to annotate music or write notes directly onto the Zoom display.

As the situation improves, I will be able to start offering lessons again from my studio and have facilities for social distancing with student and teacher playing separate pianos.

Once it is appropriate to return to normal lessons, I will give students the option to carry on with Zoom lessons if they prefer.

Please get in touch if you have any specific questions related to teaching during the pandemic.

Piano Lessons

Piano lessons are available at various times throughout the week.  Lessons are taught at my home in Heaton Mersey.

My students gain a strong foundation in technique and essential musical skills including time keeping, aural skills, reading music

Whatever the focus of the lesson, the most important thing is that it is enjoyable and productive.  I teach piano because I have a lifelong passion for music and teaching.

All ages and abilities are catered for and lessons are tailored to the student and what they want to achieve.

Many students choose to work through the ABRSM Classical and Jazz grades. Trinity and LCM grades are also catered for.   Others want to work on improvisation, theory, arranging and transcription.  Lessons may also be taken to prepare for GCSE, A-Level and BTEC Exams or to prepare for university/music college entrance auditions.

My students have a 100% pass rate in all exams including many Merit and Distinction grades up to Grade 8 and Diploma!

Have a read through  the ‘About me’ page to find out more about my musical background and experience.

Lessons are taught weekly and a fixed slot is allocated to each student.  It is expected that students attend each week during term time and optional lessons may be arranged in school holidays.

  • 30 minutes: £15 (recommended for beginners)
  • 45 minutes: £22.50 (recommended for intermediate students e.g. grade 4-5)

About me

I graduated from the University of Salford with a degree in Popular Music in 1997.  I then went on to have a full-time career in music as a performer.  I spent 7 years on tour working as a musical director for Holland America Cruise Line and also Cirkus Benneweis in Denmark.

My career was cut short when I developed RSI and it took me several years to return to playing during which time I trained as an Alexander Technique Teacher (see my other site here) and built up another career as a college lecturer at Mid Cheshire College where I was course leader for both Music and Music Technology.

Once back to full health, I returned to performing both on Piano/Keyboards and also Sousaphone (See my performing page here) and still have a hectic performing schedule.

I have been teaching privately across South Manchester since 2003 and have always maintained a busy teaching practice.  I live with my wife (also a piano teacher!) and my two young children in Heaton Mersey.
